FireRock Grille – Holy YUM!

FireRock Grille – Holy YUM!

Now and then I get a chance to discover some good places and have some delicious food. Not only that, but you get great service all around. Tonight was no exception at Firerock Grille located at 7177 Kalamazoo Ave SE, Caledonia, MI 49316.

ControversiALE by Short’s Brewing Company

Atmosphere – Walking in, you’re greeted by waitstaff ready to seat you. Having a reservation is a good idea because you never know if they’ll be busy. We had a reservation for dinner tonight, group of 4, but we could have easily just walked in and gotten a table without waiting. I’m guessing it’s because a lot of people are out of town for spring break so they didn’t seem to busy, but they were steady. Our booth was comfortable for 4 people and the tables and booths were in good shape. The acoustics in there are kind of echo-y but the permanent booth divider/separator really cut down the echo and allowed us to have a decent conversation without feeling the need to shout. But I can imagine on a really busy night that the noise in there would be high and the booth dividers wouldn’t help much if at all. That would be my only criticism with the atmosphere.

Attire – It looked like most people were wearing business casual clothing. This location is part of a country club so I’m sure they get customers in there wearing variety of clothing. I wore a long sleeve flannel shirt with a pair of nice dark jeans and it was fine.

BLT Wedge Salad

Food – Now to everyone’s favorite part, the food! For dinner tonight, a BLT Wedge Salad, 12oz Prime Rib – Med Rare, with a loaded baked potato (See picture above Title), and a Peanut Butter Brownie. My prime was prepared perfectly. Nothing beats a succulent medium rare prime rib. It was one of the best pieces of meat I’ve had in a long while. If you love wedge salads, the BLT Wedge is definitely worth a look at. They don’t skimp on the bacon. And don’t get me started on dessert. If you’re a peanut butter chocolate lover, don’t pass this dessert up. It is sublime. It is large enough to share if your stomach has already hit the breaking point. So don’t be afraid to share it, unless you’re worried someone at your table will snatch it from you.

Service – Our waitress was phenomenal. She was very attentive to our drinks, rolls, as well as getting us more rolls and additional butters and sour cream for our loaded baked potatoes. She also has an interesting backstory being from Lithuania and starting a life here in the US. She shared stories with us about growing up in Lithuania and what it was like learning English once she arrived in the US. It was a delight getting to speak with her. She did a wonderful job taking care of us tonight.

Chocolate Peanut Butter Brownie

Cost – This place is on the pricy side. But I will say this: you do get your money’s worth here. Yes you pay more here than other places but the food and service were on par with the cost at the end of the meal. So I really can’t complain about the cost of this meal experience. Just be aware of that before you make reservations.

Overall – This is a great place. I do highly recommend it. Great food, exceptional service, fair pricing, and a good atmosphere equal a wonderful dining experience. Great for celebrations of any kind, a date night, double date, or just a night out to treat yourself this place is definitely worth checking out.

Until next time, bon appétite.

Licari’s Sicilian Pizza Kitchen – Good Food, A Tad Overpriced, Still Worth It

Licari’s Sicilian Pizza Kitchen – Good Food, A Tad Overpriced, Still Worth It

Not long ago a new place, well a new place to me, opened up not too far from where I live called Licari’s Sicilian Pizza Kitchen on the corner of 36th Ave & Baldwin in Hudsonville. I always walked by this place, but never stopped in for food. And finally, tonight, I have. I always get a little nervous when it comes to pizza for a number of reasons.

First, quality. There are so many local, and franchised, pizza places around here that quality can take a dive from one place or another.

Second, standing out. Like the first point, there are so many pizza places around here that you need to make your pizzas stand out to get noticed.

Then there’s the repetitiveness. Sure, pizza is good, but people get sick of the same old same old pizza.

So what’s next? Answer: Licari’s.

The Staff – The staff we had tonight were friendly and helpful. Our waiter was great. Our host was great as well. So overall, the staff is on point.

Atmosphere – Being a new restaurant, the restaurant has a modern look and feel inside. They have outdoor dining options as well when weather permits. It was a bit noisy in there, but we were still able to carry on a normal conversation.

The Food – I had the Linguini Con Salsiccia E Ricotta, as pictured above. Delicious. They use an in-house homemade sausage and you could definitely tell it wasn’t something just picked up from the store’s freezer. It was good. I had pizza recently so I really was not in a pizza mood. Don’t shoot me. Next time I go there, I’ll make sure to order a pizza. However, I had a slice of my brother-in-law’s pizza and it was really good. It was Licari’s version of a Hawaiian pizza (special place in my heart for Hawaiian pizza) and it was delicious. I also felt everything we had was fresh, which also explains the cost – more on that in a moment. But before that, we have to talk about dessert! I really wish I could insert Homer’s drooling noise here but the Latte Cheesecake I had was DIVINE! 🤤

Lastly, the cost – Some things to note here: I believe they use fresh ingredients that are made in house or locally sourced. Looking at their website, they use homemade pizza doughs and sauces on their pizzas and you can definitely tell. All of this plays into cost, not to mention the Oberon I had on tap. So maybe overpriced isn’t fair. I had good food, the service was great, and I was able to enjoy a delicious meal with family and friends.

As people say, good food & good company.

PS, I apologize about the picture. I really wanted to try a bite and forgot to take a picture before I cut up the pasta. Oops!

American Char – Mmmm

American Char – Mmmm

I love good BBQ! And if you’re into that sort of thing, check out American Char in Zeeland, MI.

I had some BBQ ribs and wow they were delicious. Fall off the bone. You cannot beat that. They also give you a variety of sauces for you to try.

The atmosphere is very southern BBQ joint-esk.

My family were sitting there listening to the older 90’s country music that brought back memories of our high school days. Good times.

The place has big tables for 8-12 people and less of the tables for 2-4 people. It’s smaller so plan accordingly. However they have outdoor seating available in the summer so that’ll help as well and give you an outdoor option.

They do take out so if you want to get it to go, that’s always an option.

Overall, check this place out if you love anything BBQ!
